How We Source & Verify Our Prices
Real numbers, real sources. Every price on this site is traceable — here is exactly where they come from and how we check them.
Our prices come from three sources: official General Price Lists (GPLs), funeral-home websites, and verified third-party directory data. Of our 50 New Mexico listings, 25 trace back to an official GPL — the itemized disclosure the FTC Funeral Rule requires every funeral home to provide. 29 providers publish a specific direct cremation price, and all 50 listings carry a cited source and a verified date. We cover 13 New Mexico cities.
This page is written so you can trust the numbers — and check them yourself. Prices change, so always request a provider's current price list before deciding.
Where Our Prices Come From
1. Official General Price Lists (GPLs)
Our strongest source. The FTC Funeral Rule requires every funeral home in the United States to provide an itemized General Price List on request — no appointment, no obligation. 25 of our 50 listings are sourced from an official GPL, whether obtained directly as a PDF or confirmed through GPL-based pricing data.
2. Funeral-home websites
Some providers publish their package or direct cremation pricing directly on their own websites. Where a provider states a price publicly, we record it and note the website as the source.
3. Verified third-party directory data
For a minority of providers we use verified third-party funeral-pricing directories. These figures are clearly attributed to their source so you always know where a number came from and can weigh it accordingly.
Every Listing Shows Its Source and Date
Transparency only works if you can check it. That is why all 50 listings on this site display both the source of their pricing and the date it was verified. If a price came from an official GPL effective on a certain date, the listing says so.
- ✓ The source type — official GPL, funeral-home website, or verified directory data
- ✓ The date the price was verified, so you know how current it is
- ✓ A short note describing exactly what the published figures include
Prices Change — Always Request a Current GPL
Funeral prices are revised over time, and a figure that was accurate when we verified it may shift before you call. Use our numbers to compare providers and set your expectations — then ask each provider you are seriously considering for its current General Price List before you commit. It is your right under the FTC Funeral Rule, and it costs nothing.
Found a price that looks out of date? Please tell us so we can verify and correct it.
Review & Refresh Commitment
We commit to a full annual refresh of our pricing data, re-verifying sources and updating any figures that have changed. Between refreshes, we correct individual prices as soon as we learn they are out of date.

Our Sources & Authorities
Our work rests on the same authorities consumer advocates rely on:
- • FTC Funeral Rule — the federal regulation (16 CFR Part 453) requiring funeral homes to provide itemized price lists. Source: U.S. Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov).
- • National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) — industry data and the national median funeral cost figures we cite for context. Source: nfda.org.
- • Each provider's own General Price List — the primary, verifiable record behind the 25 GPL-sourced listings on this site.
